As a forensic photographer, your job is to support the investigation of a crime scene by using photography to record evidence. Forensic photography has a purpose for each image and aims to disturb the scene as little as possible—such disturbances can taint the evidence and make it inadmissible in court. In this role, you may also talk with lawyers or investigators to help build a legal case and determine how (or if) the law was broken. Forensic photography is one of the most important aspects of solving any case, as it involves gathering all of the evidence and documenting it before the crime scene is tampered with. Between weather and police, it’s very easy for the scene to change its appearance, and forensic photographers ensure the original scene is forever captured. The way that forensic photography differs from other photography fields is that the purpose of the photography is to provide accurate images that will help the trier of fact (judge or jury) to understand the evidence and scene that they were not present to see.
